Web Design Lead: E-Commerce Website for Face and Body Painters

Web Design Lead For E-Commerce Website for Face and Body Painters
Posted: 03/25/2008

Web Design Project Description: First of all if we can afford it we`d love to pay top dollar for this but we are not a big business and so this job would probably best suit a student for whom this would supplement an income over a period of time. We cannot afford much and i have feelers out elsewhere to see if we can manage to find a suitable person so please do not bid on this if you are not confident with your quote. Part of this agreement may be ongoing regular work but that would depend on the cost too. We are Face and body Painters in Melbourne Australia and we are gaining in popularity so our website needs to reflect the level of professionalism we offer. Currently it looks like I put it together myself...and i did :( There are many pages to the website and we want to add more to it but at this stage we need to just simplify the look of it and separate information into clickable links that are easy to follow through - based on the categories already existing in the website. We want the look of it to be intriguing and unique so we hope that the designer will have an appreciation of art and is well informed artistically in all aspects and particularly contemporary styles of art and design. We don`t have a budget for this so we`ll look at what you have to offer and see if we can afford it and possibly will need to discuss this in greater detail. In particular we`d like a front page that simplifies the visitors choices yet keeping things looking painterly with these things to keep in mind as far asdesign: professional body art, kids parties, festivities, balloon modeling, henna tattoos. Creativity is an obvious one. We also want our painters to have profiles that they can manage themselves by uploading images to their profile page and adding any text they like but ultimately so that i can alter any input as i see fit. I guess that might be content management? We currently have 10 painters and growing steadily so we`d need to be able to create new pages as required. **read below regarding another project. I don`t mind there being flash elements to the design as long as the body of the website is searchable and not affected in that way by the flash elements. I`m told that a flash driven website will dramatically limit search engine ability to find our website. That it`s ok to have rollovers and other effects as long as the basic page is html based. If that is not true then please confirm. We are also in need of someone to regularly update our gallery... The way that it works is that we photograph all the childrens faces at each event we attend and then we make their photos available to them through the gallery at our website. This also means we get a lot of traffic to our site as a result. We have been using the free album creator Jalbum.org but that is becoming too involved for me so we paid for a program at www.imagevuex.com - latest upgrade is coming soon and will include the ability to route folders deeper than with the current version. We want the new gallery to reflect as close as possible the existing set-up (not necessarily the look of it but how it is set-up so that our customers can easily find where their events album is located). So it should have an archive that lists all albums chronologically. A main gallery that lists that latest 10 - 20 albums. We currently have around 100 albums to be listed and still growing with every job we do. This will be a regular job for the successful applicant. We need someone to price us for their ongoing work with the gallery only as well as the work to be done to achieve all this so far. We also need someone to set-up a shopping cart system (our web hosting comes with a free Agora cart but it looks too intricate to customize. i found zen-cart a while ago which is a free cart also i think and looks much better for our purposes. I have included a link to an e-commerce template to give you an idea of what we like). We have products to sell and need to have it organized to work automatically so that all we need to do is upload products and prices and then respond to orders without having to worry about receiving and confirming payment. That would require at the very least paypal account which we don`t mind but would like to offer a more customized looking payment service in time so that it doesn`t obviously look as though paypal is taking over the payment process. We want the customer to feel as though they have not left our website. I know Paypal offers some customization but i haven`t worked out how to get beyond just adding a picture at the top of their checkout pages. If there are other programs available please quote us for the options. There will probably be more and if so we`ll discuss pricing and changes when they come. For now this is the best i can describe the changes we need. Probably also that we should steer away from using black background as i`m not sure that the text is all that easy to read so if you have any ideas feel free to mention them. I have shopped through a lot of websites looking for templates that may be a little like what we want and all i can say is that they are mostly overdone. Very impressive but unnecessary a lot of the time. We want it to work well and we want people to know that they are on a face painters website when they get there. We also want the customer to feel like navigation is easy yet there is lots of information if they want it so that they do not have to call us with questions that will take up our time. ** More work will be available.
